Carry-On Allowance

Each Economy passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 21.5in x 10in x 13.5in/55cm x 25cm x 35cm (length x width x height)
  • Maximum Weight of Carry-on Luggage: 26 lb/12 kg

Each Business Class passenger is allowed to carry on two bags and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 21.5in x 10in x 13.5in/55cm x 25cm x 35cm (length x width x height), and a smaller bag of 18in x 8in x 13.5in/45cm x 20cm x 35cm
  • Maximum Weight of Carry-on Luggage: 40 lb/18 kg
  • REMINDER: Bulkhead seats do not have underseat storage during take-off and landing.

    Checked Baggage Allowance

    Your specific baggage allowance is stated on your ticket and at Manage my Booking on the KLM website. Baggage allowance varies based on the class you are traveling, your destination and your frequent flyer status.

    • Economy class: 1 piece not exceeding 50.5 lbs/23 kg and 62in/158 cm (length + width + height)
    • Business class: 2 pieces not exceeding 70.5 lbs/32 kg and 62in/158 cm (length + width + height) each
    • Flying Blue Silver, Gold and Platinum members; SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus members: one extra piece based on their travel class with corresponding weight and size restrictions

    Economy class passengers may bring 2 pieces of check-in baggage when traveling to the Carribean, Indian Ocean, South America (Ecuador and Brazil), Africa or French Polynesia. Click here for specific information.

    Excess, Overweight, Oversize Baggage Fees

    If you have more bags than the permitted allowance or your bags exceed the weight or linear restrictions, you will be charged additional fees. Contact KLM directly, or visit their Excess Baggage Information Page for information. You may also take an extra piece of baggage at a low standard fee by paying when booking online, visiting the Manage my Booking page on the KLM site or checking in online. Paying in advance online allows you a 20% discount on the original fee.

    Sports Equipment

    Some checked items, such as surfboards and bicycles will be charged a fixed handling fee because of size, fragility, or other handling requirements. Contact KLM directly, or visit their Excess Baggage Fees page for information.

CPAP Devices:

Only POC’s that are battery operated or POC’s that are both battery operated and operating on net power are allowed for use on board. Please make sure you reserve for the transportation of your POC well before departure.
