Travel Gear

One of the most important travel items for when you fly is headphones. Whether you prefer wireless or wired, there are some great options out there for everyone. When it comes to Bluetooth headphones, it is important to know that Bluetooth headphones are not compatible with in-flight entertainment screens. You are able to buy a Bluetooth audio transmitter wireless audio adapter ahead of time and plug it into the audio jack at your seat in order to use your Bluetooth headphones.

Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphone

One our personal favorite wireless headphones is the Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphone. These over the head Bluetooth headphones are noise cancelling, which is ideal for any flight. We find that there is nothing more frustrating than when we are on a plane and can’t hear a movie, or listen to music due to the background noise. These Bose QuietComfort headphones have three levels of world-class noise cancellation as well as noise-rejecting dual microphone system which results in clearer sound and voice pick-up. If the internal battery dies out during your flight, you can turn this wireless headphone into wired, simply by plugging in an audio cable, which is provided. With the noise cancelling on, you can get up to 20 hours of battery life in wireless mode and 40 hours when wired. So, if you are looking for a reliable, good battery life, Bluetooth or wired headphones for your next flight, we would highly recommend this Bose product!

Powerbeats 3 Wireless

Powerbeats3 Wireless are another great set of wireless headphones to have on a flight. They take up very little space in your carry on, however, the trade off is, they are not noise cancelling. Instead of going over your head, or around the front of your face, they wrap around the back of your head and ears. Whether you want to watch Netflix on your phone, or listen to music, they will be guaranteed to stay in place and not be accidentally yanked out. With 12 hours of battery life, being able to choose the swappable ear tip that's most comfortable to your ear, and provide the best sound experience for you, these compact headphones will become a must have. You can also control music and activate Siri through RemoteTalk which is located right below the earpiece. A five minute charge gives you one hour of play when battery is low, which is key when you need that extra hour on the plane!

Apple AirPods

Apple’s AirPods have become one of the most popular pair of wireless headphones on the market right now. Taking a look at their sleek and minimalistic design, you can tell that no wires are involved and you just place the buds into your ears. While they are not noise cancelling, they still have cool features such as automatically connecting to the Apple device you have paired with, do not get in the way of what you are doing and are very light weight. Siri is built into the AirPods and is activated by double tapping on the AirPod. You are able to tell Siri to play a song/podcast skip forward, go back and turn up the volume, perfect if your iPhone or iPad is tucked away somewhere. If the AirPods are low on battery, just stick them in the case, where they can be charged. These are perfect for an in flight experience!

Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones

Although Bluetooth headphones are the new craze, some people, including ourselves, sometimes prefer a wired set of headphones. One benefit of a wired heaphone is you are able to plug directly into the airlines IFE system, which is harder for a pair of Bluetooth headphones. A great pair of wired headphones are the Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones. These can be compared to the Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphone, as they offer full noise cancelation. This pair of headphones comes in 2 forms- one specifically for Apple products and one specifically for Android and Samsung products. There is an inline microphone and one-touch answer/end button feature that allow for seamless switching between your calls and music. A unique feature of these headphones, that none of the headphones in this list have, is the “Aware Mode”, which lets you hear what's around you when you need to, at the touch of a button. If you are in the market for a great set of wired headphones that allow for an easy transition between full noise cancellation and partial to no noise cancellation, these are a great option for you!
