Shanghai Airlines Infants Policy

As Shanghai Airlines is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Eastern Airlines, they follow all of the same procedures.

Do I need to reserve a seat for my infant?

Children up to 2 years old (24 months), are not required to have their own seat. You must, however, inform Shanghai Airlines that you will be traveling with an infant on your lap. Infants must be accompanied by an adult passenger over 18 years of age.

One adult may travel with two infants provided that one infant travels on the adult's lap and the other infant has a child fare ticket and is able to sit upright without assistance or is seated in an approved child restraint (car seat).

You may also choose to purchase a seat for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device.

Will I pay for my infant to travel?

Yes, a child up to 2 years old (24 months) traveling on the lap of a passenger is charged 10% of an adult fare plus taxes. Infants under 14 days are not permitted to travel.

What if my child turns 2 on the trip; will I have to buy a ticket for the return flight?

Yes, a ticket will have to be purchased for any flight on which the infant will be over 2 years old.

What types of child restraint devices are allowed?

Passengers traveling with infants/children aged between 6 and 36 months will be able to use their own car type seats if space is available and provided the seat is certified for aircraft use. The car seats will be restrained in the aircraft seat by a normal aircraft lap strap. Customers wishing to use these type of seats must purchase an additional aircraft seat and pay the appropriate child fare.

What infant amenities are available on the aircraft I'll be flying (i.e. bassinets)?

Shanghai Airlines does not accept babies younger than 14 days old. Shanghai Airlines' long-haul aircraft are equipped with special baby bassinets and packs, as well as a wide range of baby food. Each has at least two toilets with special fold-down tables for changing diapers.

If it is present, clicking on it will tell you what infant services are available on that airplane. If you do not see it, infant amenities are not offered on that aircraft. You can always contact Shanghai Airlines for more information.

Baggage Allowance

Infants traveling without a seat are not allowed baggage allowance (may vary on international flights). Infants occupying a seat recieve standard baggage allowance.

Can I sit in the Exit Row with my infant?

No lap children or infant seats are allowed in an exit row; in fact, all passengers in an exit row must be at least 15 years of age. In addition, infant seats are not allowed in the row directly in front of or directly behind an exit.

Can I book an infant's electronic ticket online?

No, passengers cannot book an electronic ticket for an infant, and you can buy the paper ticket for your baby at your departure airport.
