Do I need to reserve a seat for my infant?

  • An infant under 2 years of age, travelling on an adult’s lap, is only required to pay 10% of the adult’s fare, plus the additional amount charged for security, fuel fees, and international taxes.
  • There is no discount for infants over 2 years of age.
  • Infants travelling with the reduced fare are not entitled to any baggage allowance, food service, or an extra seat.
  • Reduced fare for infants must be bought on avianca.com at the same time of purchase as the adult fare.

Will I pay for my infant to travel domestically?

Yes, infants under 2 years of age, travelling on an adult’s lap must pay the reduced fare price ticket.

What if my child turns 2 on the trip; will I have to buy a ticket for the return flight?

Yes, only children under 2 years of age can travel at a reduced price. If your child turns 2 on the trip, they are required to purchase a full priced fare for the return ticket.

What types of child restraint devices are allowed?

  • If the infant pays for a full priced seat, a portable baby carrier may be attached to the seat. The carrier must be FAA approved; otherwise it must be checked as excess baggage.
  • If space on the aircraft allows, a collapsible stroller may be acceptable as hand luggage in the cabin.

What infant amenities are available on the aircraft I’ll be flying on?

Avianca flights operated by an Airbus aircraft offer an in-flight cradle service for infants weighing up to 11 kg. This service can be reserved when completing Web Check-in or at the airport counter. Cradles are assigned on a first come first serve basis:

  • Boeing 787: 3 cradles per aircraft
  • Airbus 330: 5 cradles per aircraft

Can I sit in an Exit Row with my infant?

No, adults travelling with infants are not allowed to sit in an Exit Row seat.
